GST on top, or GST inside the price
GST on top (your menu says “+ GST”): GST = price × 5%. A ₹1,000 service is billed ₹1,000 + ₹25 CGST + ₹25 SGST = ₹1,050.
GST inside (your menu price is what the client pays): taxable value = price ÷ 1.05. A ₹1,000 service has a taxable value of ₹952.38, with ₹23.81 CGST and ₹23.81 SGST.

Salon GST questions
What is the GST rate on salon services?
Since 22 September 2025, beauty and physical well-being services (salons, spas, barbers) are taxed at 5%: 2.5% CGST and 2.5% SGST, without input tax credit. Products sold at the salon carry their own rate, 5% or 18%.
How do I work out GST from a price that includes it?
Divide by 1.05 to get the taxable value at 5%. On ₹1,050 that is ₹1,000, so the GST is ₹50: ₹25 CGST and ₹25 SGST.
When is it IGST?
IGST is for supplies from one state to another. A salon service is supplied where the salon is, to a client sitting in it, so salon bills are CGST and SGST (or UTGST in a union territory without a legislature).
