What GST on a salon bill comes to
Type a bill amount and say whether GST is already inside it. This is the same sum Frizzi does on every line of every bill, split into equal CGST and SGST.
A salon bill
Salon and spa services: 5% since 22 September 2025.
The bill
For a client in the same state as the salon, GST is split into equal CGST and SGST (UTGST in a union territory without a legislature, such as Chandigarh). Not tax advice: check your own case with your CA.

GST rates on a salon bill since 22 September 2025
Salon and spa services moved to 5% without input tax credit (ITC) on 22 September 2025. Products kept their own rates. This is how each line on a Frizzi bill is taxed.
| What you sell | GST | Code on the bill | How Frizzi handles it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Services: haircuts, colour, facials, spa, nails | 5% (2.5% CGST + 2.5% SGST) | SAC 9997 | The only rate the app accepts for a service, so nobody can pick 18% by mistake |
| Packages and memberships | 5%, on the day they are sold | SAC 9997 | Sold on a normal tax invoice; sessions used later are ₹0 lines |
| Shampoo, hair oil, soap bars, talc, toothpaste, shaving cream | 5% | The product’s HSN code | Suggested from the HSN code or the product’s name when you add it |
| Conditioner, serum, hair colour, creams, make-up | 18% | The product’s HSN code | Kept apart from 5% products in the GST summary on the bill |
| Gift vouchers and wallet top-ups | None when sold | — | A receipt, not a sale; GST is charged on the bill where the money is spent |
| Late-cancellation and no-show fees (Plus) | 5%, inside the fee | SAC 9997 | Each fee gets its own numbered fee invoice, DS/F26-27/00001 |
Rates as we understand them in November 2026. 12% and 28% can’t be picked for a product. Your CA should confirm the rates for your own salon; see our guides to GST on salon services and GST on salon products.
The rules, kept for you
What salon billing software with GST has to get right
A GST bill is more than a total with tax added. These are the rules Frizzi follows on every bill, without anyone at the desk having to remember them.
Numbers that never skip
One series per company and financial year, like DS/26-27/00001. The prefix is 2 to 4 characters so every number stays within the 16 characters GST rule 46 allows. Numbers come one at a time from a locked counter, and a bill sent twice on a bad connection is saved once.
Tax invoice or bill of supply
With a GSTIN, the bill says TAX INVOICE with “Reverse charge: No”, your legal name, address and GSTIN, and a GST summary by SAC or HSN and rate. Without a GSTIN, it is a bill of supply with no GST lines at all.
Bills of ₹50,000 or more
A bridal or keratin bill that reaches ₹50,000 (with GST, tip left out) must carry the client’s name and address. The till won’t charge until the address is added, and the server checks it again.
Details frozen on the day
Your details and the client’s are copied onto the bill, and each product keeps its HSN code as it was. Change a client’s address next year and last year’s invoice still shows what was true.
GST inside the price, or on top
“Prices include GST” is on to begin with, so a ₹1,050 service is ₹1,000 plus ₹50 GST. Switch it off and GST is added on top. A bill discount is shared across the lines so each line’s GST is exact.
CGST and SGST, never IGST
Salon services are given at your salon, in your state, so Frizzi bills charge CGST and SGST only. Totals are rounded to the rupee, with the round-off shown on its own line.
When a bill has to change
Mistakes fixed the GST way, not with a rubber
Bills are never deleted: the database itself refuses. Every change leaves a record, and the invoice series stays unbroken for your GST return.
Cancel, always with a reason
Managers can cancel today’s bills and owners any bill. For a bill from an earlier day, Frizzi first asks one question: “It was a mistake” (it was entered twice, no money goes back) or “Money goes back today”. Your cash tally and daily sales then show it on the right day.
Cancel a bill from an earlier month and Frizzi issues a numbered GST credit note in this month, so the return you already filed stays as it was.
- Stock, wallet, package sessions and points go back
- Cancelled bills stay listed, marked cancelled
- No credit note after the 30 November deadline

Refund part of a bill, with a credit note
Give back a whole service, part of an amount, products by quantity (with “Put back in stock”), or unused package sessions. Owners, managers and the desk can refund; stylists can’t.
Money goes back on a gift voucher first, then the wallet, then cash, UPI or card. Each refund on a tax invoice makes its own credit note (CGST Rule 53), numbered like DS/CN26-27/0001 and naming the original invoice. A bill of supply gets a refund receipt instead.
- Amount and GST shown before you confirm
- Never more than the bill or the line took
- Commission and points adjust by themselves
Reason: client unhappy with the spa
Sample refund
Owners can edit, and everyone can see it
Only an owner can edit a charged bill, and only this month’s or last month’s. Who did each service, who gets the tip, cash or UPI or card, the client on a walk-in bill and the note change in place, with the same invoice number.
Changing services or prices is done the GST way: the bill is cancelled and a new one is made that says “Replaces DS/26-27/00042”. The salon’s other owners are told, and every receipt after an edit says “Revised on”.
- A reason every time, kept in the bill’s history
- Commission moves to the right stylist
- Older bills can only be cancelled

Who can do what
The desk bills, the owner holds the keys
Each person sees the buttons their role allows. The server checks every request too, so trying another way gets “not allowed”.
| Owner | Manager | Reception | Stylist | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Make bills and send receipts | Yes | Yes | Yes | — |
| Change a price on a bill | Yes | Yes | — | — |
| Cancel a bill | Any bill | Today’s | — | — |
| Refund part or all of a bill | Yes | Their branches | Their branches | — |
| Edit a charged bill | This and last month | — | — | — |
| Discount above the limit (Plus) | No limit | Approves with PIN | Asks for a PIN | — |
| Start a bill for the desk to finish (Plus) | — | — | — | When switched on |
Owners hear when a bill is cancelled, refunded or changed by someone else. Discount limits and bill approval come with Plus.
Receipts and the month end
From the counter to your CA
The receipt opens the moment you charge. Print it on a 58 mm or 80 mm thermal printer or on A4, share an A4 PDF, or send the receipt on WhatsApp. It reads like a shop receipt: item, quantity, rate and amount, who did each service, the amount in words and “Billed by”. Reprints say DUPLICATE. Clients with the free Frizzi app (coming soon) also see the full bill there.
At the end of the month, the Monthly GST report gives the figures per GSTIN, laid out for GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B, with credit notes and fee invoices in the right month. The HSN / SAC summary is ready for GSTR-1 Table 12. Both download as Excel or PDF, and owners can send the month to Tally with the Tally export. Tally import hasn’t been tried in a real TallyPrime yet, so do your first month with your accountant, on a copy of the company.
Every bill Frizzi makes is to a client without a GSTIN (B2C). If a business client asks for an invoice with their GSTIN, that isn’t built yet. For what has to be on a salon bill, read the salon GST invoice format.

FAQ
Questions
What GST rate applies to salon services in 2026?
Since 22 September 2025, salon and beauty services are taxed at 5% (2.5% CGST and 2.5% SGST), without input tax credit. Products sold over the counter keep their own rates, mostly 5% or 18%. Frizzi uses 5% for every service. Ask your CA to confirm the rates for your salon.
Does Frizzi charge IGST on salon bills?
No. Salon services are given at your salon, in your state, so Frizzi bills charge CGST and SGST only, and so do its credit notes. This is true even when the client lives in another state.
My salon isn’t registered for GST. Can I still use Frizzi?
Yes. Without a GSTIN, Frizzi prints a bill of supply with no GST lines. Once you add a GSTIN, new bills are tax invoices with CGST and SGST.
Can I delete a wrong bill?
No, and that protects you. A wrong bill is cancelled or refunded with a reason. A refund, or cancelling a bill from an earlier month, makes a numbered GST credit note, so your invoice numbers never have gaps and your return always matches your books.
When does a salon bill need the client’s address?
When the bill comes to ₹50,000 or more, with GST and without the tip. Below that, the name and number are enough. Frizzi won’t charge a big bill until the address is added.
Is GST charged when I sell a gift voucher or add money to a wallet?
Not at the time. A gift voucher sale or a wallet top-up gets a receipt, not a tax invoice. GST is charged on the bill where the money is spent. Packages and memberships are different: they are taxed on the day they are sold.
Can I give an invoice with my client’s GSTIN?
Not yet. Every Frizzi bill is to a client without a GSTIN (B2C), so the GST reports have no B2B section.
