Salon software vs general billing apps: what the bill doesn’t show
Salon software vs general billing apps is a fair question. General billing and GST apps are good at what they do: clean invoices, stock of goods, GST returns. A salon bill, though, carries more than an item and a price. It carries who did the work, the appointment it came from, the package it used up and the commission it earns.

What general billing and GST apps do well
A general billing app is built for any business: a hardware shop, a distributor, a consultant. That makes it strong at the things every business shares. It makes GST invoices, tracks goods in and out, handles customers who are businesses with their own GSTIN, and helps your accountant with returns. Many are cheap and well supported.
If all you need is a correct invoice, a general app will do the job. The trouble starts the moment you ask it a salon question: how much commission does Meera get this month, who is free at 4 pm, how many sessions does Neha have left on her package? Those answers live outside the invoice, so a general app usually leaves them to a register or a spreadsheet beside it.

Salon software vs general billing apps: what a salon needs
Every app is different, so treat the middle column as “check before you buy”, not a verdict.
| A salon needs | Typical general billing app | Frizzi |
|---|---|---|
| A stylist on every service line | A salesperson per bill, if any | Each service asks who did it |
| Commission from those lines | Usually not | One % per person on Basic; slabs and targets on Pro |
| Appointments, walk-ins, no double-booking | Usually not | Calendar with a column per stylist |
| Packages with sessions left | Usually not | “Use package · 3 left” at the till (Plus) |
| Memberships with automatic discounts | Sometimes, as price lists | Discount from the bill that sells it (Plus) |
| Client wallet and dues across visits | Customer balance, often | One balance per client, every branch |
| Staff attendance and check-in | Usually not | One tap, GPS optional; shifts and leave on Pro |
| Services at 5% GST, SAC 9997 | Yes, once set up | Set by default; other rates refused for services |
Stylist per service
Why one name per bill isn’t enough
In a salon one bill often has two or three people on it: Meera cut and coloured, Tanya did the blow-dry. A billing app with one “salesperson” field puts the whole ₹5,000 on one name, and the commission is wrong for both.
Frizzi puts a person on every service line, splits a combo’s price across its services, and works out commission on the amount after discount and before GST. Package sessions still earn at the service’s normal price. That is the number behind fair pay; read how stylist commission works and commission on packages.
- A stylist per line, even in combos
- Commission without GST, after discounts
- Staff see only their own earnings

Beyond the invoice
The work that happens before and after the bill
Before: the booking
The bill starts as an appointment. “Bill now” fills the till from it, and “Book next visit” sets up the next one.
During: prepaid money
Packages and memberships (Plus) are sold on a GST bill and used on later ones. Gift vouchers and wallet top-ups are receipts, with GST charged when they are spent.
After: the reminder
The client’s usual gap tells Frizzi when she is due again. On Plus, a message goes out when she is.
Honestly
When a general billing app is the better choice
Frizzi is salon-only. These are things it does not do, and some general apps do.
You bill businesses with a GSTIN
Frizzi treats every bill as one to a person (B2C). There is no field for the client’s GSTIN and no B2B section in its GST report.
You supply across state lines
Frizzi salon bills charge CGST and SGST only, never IGST.
You also trade goods in bulk
No batch-wise stock, and no input tax credit worked out on purchases. Frizzi’s stock is for a salon’s shelf and back room.
Your accountant runs everything there
Frizzi exports to Tally instead. That export hasn’t been tried in a real TallyPrime yet, so do your first month with your accountant, on a copy of the company.

FAQ
Questions
Can I use a general GST billing app for my salon?
Yes, for invoices. Most will make a correct GST bill. What they usually don’t do is put a stylist on each service, work out commission, run appointments, or track packages and memberships, so you end up keeping those in a register beside it.
Does Frizzi make B2B invoices with the client’s GSTIN?
No. Every Frizzi bill is to a person (B2C). If you regularly invoice companies that need their GSTIN on the bill, a general billing app may suit that part better.
Does Frizzi charge IGST?
No. Salon bills in Frizzi charge CGST and SGST only.
Can Frizzi send my sales to Tally?
Yes. Frizzi makes two XML files for a month: ledgers and entries. It has not been tried in a real TallyPrime yet, so do your first month with your accountant on a copy of your company.
Is Frizzi more expensive than a billing app?
Basic is ₹99 a branch a month plus GST, with unlimited staff. Plus (₹799) adds memberships, packages and vouchers; Pro (₹1,499) adds payroll and full stock. Frizzi takes no share of your bills.
Can I keep my billing app and add Frizzi?
You could, but billing twice causes mistakes. Most salons are better off billing in one place. Frizzi makes the GST bills itself.
